Sensitivity of the GAPS experiment to low-energy cosmic-ray antiprotons

چکیده

The General Antiparticle Spectrometer (GAPS) is an upcoming balloon mission to measure low-energy cosmic-ray antinuclei during at least three ~35-day Antarctic flights. With its large geometric acceptance and novel exotic atom-based particle identification, GAPS will detect ~500 cosmic antiprotons per flight produce a precision antiproton spectrum in the kinetic energy range of ~0.07-0.21 GeV/n top atmosphere. these high statistics extending lower energies than any previous experiment, with complementary sources experimental uncertainty compared traditional magnetic spectrometers, measurement be sensitive dark matter, primordial black holes, ray propagation. also validate antinucleus identification technique for antideuteron antihelium rare-event searches. This analysis demonstrates sensitivity using full instrument simulation event reconstruction, including solar atmospheric effects.

Cosmic Ray Antiprotons

Interstellar (IS) cosmic rays consist mainly of protons with a smaller admixture of heavier nuclei. Antiprotons (p’s) occur at an abundance of 10 of p’s. These energetic particles, kinetic energy K > 10 MeV, are Galactic in origin, not to be confused with the much denser solar wind plasma, with much lower K. The relative element abundances in cosmic rays (CRs) indicate that CR primaries are ion...

Measurements of cosmic-ray antiprotons with PAMELA

The PAMELA experiment is a satellite-borne apparatus designed to study charged particles, and especially antiparticles, in the cosmic radiation. The apparatus is mounted on the Resurs DK1 satellite which was launched on 15 June 2006. PAMELA has been traveling around the earth along an elliptical and semi-polar orbit for almost five years. It mainly consists of a permanent magnetic spectrometer,...

Cosmic–ray Antiprotons from Neutralino Annihilation in the Halo

We report the main results of a paper where recent data of low–energy cosmic–ray p̄ spectrum have been analyzed in terms of newly calculated fluxes for secondary antiprotons and for a possible contribution of an exotic signal due to neutralino annihilation in the galactic halo. We also present the results of a paper in which we have proved that a sizeable fraction of the supersymmetric neutralin...

the role of russia in transmission of energy from central asia and caucuses to european union

Low Energy Cosmic Ray Interactions in Astrophysics

Gamma ray emission lines resulting from accelerated particle bombardment of ambient gas can serve as an important spectroscopic tool for abundance determinations. The method is illustrated by considering the gamma ray line emission observed from solar flares. The observation of similar gamma ray lines from Orion suggests the existence of large fluxes of low energy Galactic cosmic rays. The role...
